MARRIAGE PROSODY_WHATSOEVER IS RIGHT

WHATSOEVER IS RIGHT

I sat at the back left of the car because I felt shaken after the lorry rammed on me. I’ll admit that my thoughts were totally, no, vehemently disoriented. I thought of every wrong possibility that could happen the moment I got behind the wheels again and brood over it.

Then I realized that the more I thought about those wrong possibilities, the more I was filled with fear. Fear of the unknown.

That’s what the devil wants. To think outside the space of God. I deliberately talked out loud to myself, refusing every spirit of fear and intimidation that the devil was slowly inducting me to.

I declared peace over my life. I declared that I will live to declare and decree the works of the Living God in the land of the living. I declared long life.

I cancelled every work of the enemy and the kingdom of darkness against my life and my family. I realigned my thoughts back to the right track.

THINKING RIGHT.

Right is defined as what is “morally good, justified and acceptable.” In other words, it’s what feeds on your soul as the right probiotic.

Wisdom dictates that we ought to be right before we desire a relationship. It’s not a cliche, it’s the true way.

Though sometimes, thinking right, even when you have the right person with you, takes a nose dive in marriage. This is especially true when you are both at opposing ends, probably with differing opinions. Hearts pulling against each other.

This is where the deliberate effort of thinking RIGHT thoughts about your spouse comes in.

Are your thoughts about your spouse RIGHT? Do you know that if you choose to think what is right about your spouse you act that way towards him or her? Where the mind goes the body follows.

We believe that we are only thinking in response to what is actually happening, but that’s far from the truth. Thoughts are conceived way before we act.

You can’t live right if you won’t think right. Your spirit is the part of your being that responds to God and receives His power. Learning how to steer your spirit by managing your thoughts is key to advancing in this war.

It doesn’t mean that all will be crystal clear. That you will not encounter challenges in your marriage. That your spouse will be all Mother Teresa towards you, but the Word admonishes us to think the RIGHT thoughts towards our spouses.

Positive thinking isn’t a replacement for God, but it is a response to God.

If you let negativity in the door, it will want a seat at the table, it will want to sleep in your bed, and soon it becomes your default mode. This means you can change the way you feel by changing the way you think.

You can choose to think anything you want to. You can choose to think that the world is flat. That doesn’t mean it’s true. You can choose to think you are married to the worst spouse on the planet. That also doesn’t mean it’s true. You can choose to think that your spouse can never change or is irredeemable. That also doesn’t mean that it’s true.

What you think you become. What you imagine, you conceive.

When you purposely choose, as an act of your will to think right thoughts about your spouse, you provide a space for God to work in both yourself and him.

Right thoughts simply gives an enabling crutch to what seems disabled in your marriage. It is the take off gear in your marriage. It sets everything on the right cause and in the right channel. Positioning your marriage to be swept down by the flooding river of the Holy Spirit.

The best place to begin to help yourself think right thoughts about your spouse is thinking what the Bible says about him or her.

The Bible says your spouse is a child of God. The Bible says they dearly loved by God. The Bible says that God takes personally how we treat His children. Genesis 12:3.

The Bible also says, “You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the LORD, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the LORD swore to give your fathers.” Deuteronomy 6:18.

Then extend that into your day to day life.

Think that your marriage is RIGHT. Think that your spouse is RIGHT. Think that your union is RIGHT. Think that the little habits that irk you, are all not for your doom, they might not change overnight, so you might as well find the space for laughter and the ability to extend grace. It is RIGHT.

When we think of our spouses in the right way and then we treat them in the right way, God will not be frugal about His blessings when we choose to act this way.

Choose today to think about your spouse according to what the Word of God says about him.

The battle for change might not feel good at the moment, probably it might be a war of sweat and blood in you, an internal turmoil, but fighting for good thoughts, words, and actions today will, over time, turn into lifelong strengths.

Choose to think of whatsoever is right….
